Population density probably has something to do with it. When there is so much wide open space between population centers, travel by EV is less practical. With so many things competing for scarce state resources today, if the masses aren't clamoring for EV support, the state legislators won't show any interest. Even in CA, until Model S and the Supercharger came along, EV travel between SoCal and Las Vegas wasn't practical, and still isn't for anything but Model S.

I bought a ModS and a Leaf last year. We are an all electric family. I was encouraged by the $15,000 in tax credits I got from the Fed and the $5000 in rebates I got from CA, along with single occupant use of the HOV lanes. Can we honestly say that paying $50-$100 a year for our fair share use of the roadway would be that discouraging to the adoption of EVs? I don't think so but I respect your viewpoint.

"After all, how much wear and tear to the highways does an electric vehicle cause anyway?" Actually, more than a comparable size ICE vehicle because of battery weight. The curb weight of my 85 kWh ModS is nearly 2.5 tons. While I don't relish paying taxes any more than the next guy, I don't expect a free pass for use of the roadways just because I've adopted a new technology.

Apple should stick to what it does best. Tesla is where it's at today because of the vision and tenacity of Elon Musk and his passion for transitioning the automotive world to electrics in spite of seemingly insurmountable obstacles in that pathway. The core business of every other auto company is selling ICE vehicles. If Tesla was acquired by one of those, I truly believe that would be the end of the EV revolution as we are watching it unfold today. Beyond a few compliance cars to satisfy government imposed mandates, there is no incentive for them to promote or invest in Elon's vision.

Amazing when you consider how many people had a hand in designing, permitting, constructing and final inspecting the installation. You'd almost think it was intentional, but then the question is... Why?

I agree. There's a degree of unfairness when the heavy gas guzzlers pay the same tax as the more lightweight fuel efficient vehicles. I'm sure there is someone in NJ who could figure out a fair way to index the tax based on the vehicle's curb weight, EPA fuel efficiency and maybe even carbon emissions.

Not yet. Maybe someday Tesla will get around to activating the flash memory storage I paid for in the Sound Studio Package. Oh, and maybe the WiFi too.

Hokum? There are plenty of new technology alternative sources for music, but enough people still want CDs to make it profitable for the music world to sell them. When that ends, so will CDs.
Just how does a quality sound system mask road noise? Is there some magic in the sound waves that cancels road noise or do you just turn it up so loud you can no longer hear it?
Have you ever ridden in a Model S at highway speeds? I have because I own one, and it's pretty quiet. EVs are like that you know, or maybe my quality sound system is masking the road noise. Either way, you can hear the difference between the flat tonal quality of a low data rate stream/encoded file and the full fidelity of a CD or high data rate MP3.

Plug it into what? There is no AUX input jack, and from what I've read on the TM Forums, the I-media devices don't interface properly with the USB so they have to BT stream instead.

Some of us were born in the last half of the last century and have VERY large CD collections that will have to be converted to a format compatible with the audio system in ModS. Not hard but time consuming; thanks TM. Unlike cassette tapes, CDs are still sold in stores and even ModS comes with the 12V receptacle for a cigarette lighter if you wanted use it for that. USB is pretty 20th century too, but ModS has two of those. Streaming music, be it a BT stream from your phone or over the Internet, is fine as far as it goes, but due to bandwidth constraints, doesn't have the audio quality (fidelity) that a CD or other high data rate source file has. When you pay the extra $ for a premium sound system, the quality of the music source matters.
