A REALLY bad idea... There are probably more cars with a broken or out of sync (different sized tires for example) odometer in any state than EV cars there. You'd want to create another bureaucracy that would have difficulty funding itself much less generate any additional income for roads. Ad volorem tax in GA is an example of such tax. Georgia collects it and it ends up funding its own collection process. I guess it creates jobs but it does make me mad :-)

The cooling systems needs to be serviced after 10 (or is it 15?) years too :)

I don't know... Some of the reasons may include the lack of funds for the majority of the Americans. We're the third world country if you look at the bottom half, the medical services that are available (or can be afforded), the living standards, level of education, and nutrition. Those solar panels and electric cars are as removed from their reality as for those living in Zimbabwe.

CHAdeMO for 20 miles of range? Wow... They should have put the third row in there instead. I've always liked this SUV but call me crazy: the US is lost for Mitsubishi. I guess the used car lots keep a few remaining dealers still in business.

Same here - Without 5 seats the car is irrelevant for me. 5 seats make it a sure buy.

There will be quite a few nationwide choices and competition within the next 2-4 years. The $30K Beemer is coming! Who needs Coda - good riddance...

Are there any combo DC chargers out there yet? Because if this is an option you have to pay extra for and all you get is vaporware then this type of L3 charging is even worse than what CHAdeMO has become (except for Japan and the West Coast maybe...)

I also wonder how much the battery will degrade with multiple daily L3 charges after 1 year. It'd be very interesting to see beyond that too but it's not going to happen.

If it takes 7.5 kWh of energy (from wells to wheels) to refine a gallon of gas before you actually burn it then my LEAF that can cover over 20 miles on that energy alone is zero emissions compared to my alternative (23 MPG Sienna or my beloved but thirsty 18 MPG Trooper which I just sold...) Also, by charging EVs at night we can actually make a pretty strong argument that we capture excess energy that would otherwise go to waste. And that's obviously before the solar panels are considered which are quite destructive to the power companies.
