What a joke. The roads in this country are deteriorating rapidly. Imagine if they had water lines in them. They would be wet all the time with leaks. A traffic hazard. Then the lawsuits....
The answer to our energy problems is there - just look up at that yellow thing in the sky.

When I purchased our Miev, my thought was to never need a commercial charger. I limit our trips to the capacity of the battery. I'll never depend on a commercial charger being available because of all the problems mentioned above. Our next second car will be plug-in hybrid, still avoiding dependence on commercial/public chargers. Problem solved.

Why does fuel have to go through an engine, with all of its complexity, to generate electricity?
I'm sure there's technology out there that converts fuel (gasoline, hydrogen, etc) directly into electricity. It would be perfect for supporting a low battery, not make noise, and be small. ICE's are looking more and more like fossils.

What an interesting time to be able to watch as electrics morph in front of our eyes. Soon, a car manufacturer will achieve just the right combination of electric and assisted power, and sales will skyrocket. So far, the Volt seems to have come closest to achieving the perfect combination. The BMW is on the right track, also.

When I purchased our Miev a year ago, one of my major considerations was the quality and background of the company. Obviously some start-up electric car manufacturers were not going to make it, i.e. the Coda. Mitsubishi has an excellent background in electrical development and a wide manufacturing base. They can easily withstand the ups and downs of introducing a new technology to driving. They are shooting for a World market, not just the U.S. Now, if they would just advertise in the U.S. a little more....

A year ago, I installed a home solar power system with the thought that it would offset my electric bill. That utilities constantly rise in price is a given. My really bright idea was to add an electric car to the system. I've saved thousands in gas costs already. It's obvious that here in S. Cal. we are captives of the gas companies. Their goal, in my opinion, is gas at $5.00 per gallon. Right now they are conditioning us to get used to $4.00+ a gallon. Bet it's $5.00 by this time next year...

Cool idea. Clunky design, but I'm sure it could be improved. It would be different, seeking a parking spot in the sun instead of the shade...

Had my solar / electric car combo for one year now. The solar was DIY, costing about 22K. Am saving about $2500 a year on gas and electric. The system has exceeded my expectations, so far. The panels on my roof provide all this electric - amazing!

Put me down for 40 miles. I think most potential buyers will look at their daily mileage requirements and use that number as a reference. The Volt seems to be reaching for that...
