Commented On: Cash Prize For Tech To Reduce Oil Use From DC Lobbying Group

Spaying and neutering the population will have a material difference on future oil usage. But that technology already exists. The government wants the economy to never stop growing. So, the one technique to stop oil usage is to simply raise gas taxes to help pay down our debts and foster new research for renewables energy storage for grid stabilization.

The drawback I have is that the Focus EV has a known issue of many drivers being hit with a loss of power issue (the "pull over now" problem). Has that been fixed? Seems the car has a history of this.

The one fuel cell technology that would work, with more research, is a fuel cell that converts gasoline hydrocarbons to energy without burning it. Leaving the energy lost to heat to possibly be used more for locomotion.

Fuel Cell vehicles are dead-end technology.

Fuel Cells work in one place - outer space. Perhaps larger-scale natural gas fuel cells which turn gas into energy directly without burning it (UTI had Pure Cells - but sold off the division, that's how awesome they are).

It brings to the attention of the Federal Government the ongoing multi-decade "protectionist" laws that went into effect that originally protected the consumer which now protect the dealers instead. NADA and dealership 3rd party laws do nothing to help consumers anymore and the government should realize that.

May it be due to the limited speed that the electric motors and batteries could be made by GM and B456 and the issues A123 had last year?

A national rollout would be nice but CA is in hurry up mode to get EVs while many other states are hating on them. See VA and NC for more details...

Dealers exist for one reason. To support service departments.

EVs are a dire threat to dealerships and their service departments. This is protectionism. They don't mind selling cars made entirely in another country and sending most of the money overseas. But when an American company starts selling direct to consumers, they take issue. Huh. Seems dealers have a lot to worry about - that is for common consumers finding out what they are all about.

Yes. People waiting for some level of technology to come out are missing out on what is here today.
