I would probably buy this if it were available in the US. People all over the US drive older cars that would not pass the current safety regulations. Does anyone have any stats on the # of deaths/injuries per car wreck in the UK/Europe vs the US for a particular type a car, for comparison?

As long as the tax is relatively low. Say $30-40 for a set of tires, which probably will not contribute much. Otherwise, if it's $300-400, which it probably should be, tire theft will skyrocket.

Mitsubishi should have spent a little more time on the styling. Great mpg, but it looks like a turd, IMO. I do like the looks of the Fiesta, but would have to agree with others that real world mpg's will suffer at the hands of the average driver. It would be interesting to see how each car does over at the mpgomatic site run by Daniel Gray. Conscientious driving will pay off for both of these cars. Just stay in the right hand lane, and check your rear view for Xiaolong's Volt.

What do you propose to fund R&D in alternative energy?

If that is the case, they would be wise to give you the option of how much electric range you would like to have with your Volt. Kind of like Tesla does with their Model S. Three options 30,45 or 60 miles of battery range. And I hope the make the ICE quite a bit more efficient than the current one.

Seems to me, this engine would sell well in the US. Same could be said for Honda's new 1.6 diesel in a Fit or a Civic. What a shame...

I can't imagine the CRZ or Insight will be around too much longer at the rate they are selling. I look forward to seeing Honda's new hybrid system in the new 2015 Fit. Hopefully it will be competitive with the Prius in mpg's and a lot funner to drive. Maybe even look good too.

They are controlled to a certain extent, depending on the direction you are going, and the time of day. But still, you'll get better mileage by paying attention to what is going on a couple of lights ahead of you. And you won't be going any slower overall than anybody else. And I understand it can be annoying to people who don't know what you are trying to do. People just don't seem to want to think it through as to what you are trying to do, which is keep your momentum up.

I will add this to, that the most wasteful thing she does along with so many other people around me on the road, is that she races to the stoplight as fast as she can just to sit there for 10 seconds till the light changes and do the whole thing over again at the next light!

This is sure true with my 2000 Honda Insight. My girlfriend drives it with no care about gas mileage and gets around 45-50 mpg's. I drive the same route, barely any slower, just paying attention to the traffic lights and trying to glide whenever I can, and I get 25-30% better mileage that she does. It will be interesting to see how the car does in real world driving with people who make an effort to get the best mileage possible.
