Your not paying for the electricity, your paying for the machine operating time to deliver that electricity in half an hour. Those charging stations are not cheap to manufacture or install for a relatively small market. It's got to be paid somehow. On an annual basis most people would just charge at home and not use those charging stations, but those charging stations do encourage to buy the electric cars in certain areas as it provides an option for the occasional long distance commute.

We had the pleasure of visiting the Tesla Store at the Fashion Mall in California to see them for the very first time during our vacation. It certainly did not have the high-pressure feeling you get as soon as you visit a car dealership. People were really excited to be in there and sit in the cars. I met a 4 week old Model S owner charging outside. He was still like a kid on Christmas morning over his car. I spotted two Model S' driving in the wild and it was like spotting celebrities! Andrew Feldman- I would suggest going on the Tesla Motors club and converse with actual owners of the S, not just what some journalist wrote. If you base your decision on the journalist, then I don't think you were all that serious about the Model S anyways.

It's under $30K which I think allot of people are looking for. Did they say anything about the range? I came close to buying a used one up here in Canada but the boss (my wife) was spooked about how the severe cold can affect the batteries up here in Alberta. We'd like a longer range to compensate for that. Also, our Alberta government offers NO financial incentives to buy an EV, but that it a different story. Good news on the price reduction! We'd also like to see Nissan offer a range extender like the Volt, but with 5 passengers. A four passenger EV is a non-starter for us.

Last winter when the Lithium Ion battery core temperature got down to -1C there was no electron flow happening with my Enginer system or Toyota NhMi battery. So two battery warmers were 'sandwhiched' in between them and turned on during nighttime charging. The extra electrical cost was minimal. A DIY 'thermal blanket" of foam boards were placed around the Enginer system to help retain the heat during the working day (no charging options). Even if the outside temps were -26C at the end of the workday, the Lithium Ion batteries would be around +14C.
It's getting colder now here in Edmonton Alberta so the 'thermal blanket' when in last night.

I am sure Mr. Musk has a good set of lawyers to put this to rest!
As a 'Tesla Virgin', in that I've never ever seen one in the flesh before, i'm excited to visit a Tesla Store in southern California during our x-mas vacation from Alberta!
Dodge phoned up the other week looking for more business. I told them that I am now enjoying my converted Prius PHEV with 100+mpg and will only buy electric in the future and wont see me on their lot until they can step up to the plate as they are so far behind already. The response on the phone was, "YOU GET MORE THAN 100MPG"?!?! Gawd that felt good! :)

I have seen 3 F1 races at Silverstone. part of the 'magic' is the sound and 'feeling' the power as they raced by. The cars may need to invoke similar atributes; perhaps not with a sound recording but by a 'whisle(s)' incorporated within the bodywork that change pitch depending on what they are dong n the track....

John - I traded my old truck towards a 2005 Toyota Prius. Saved a lot of money on gas. Also saved a lot of money on insurance!
After 9 months, I thought: This is great, but I'll bet I could do even better. So with the money I saved, I drove the over the rocky mountains during a 11 hour drive to Electric Autosports in Vancouver and had an Enginer plug-in kit installed. Now his Prius gets 75 to 100 mpg and can run silently in EV mode under lower torque loads.
Here's the best part: The conversion - all parts and labor included - only cost me about 4K. So from what I've been reading my 5.3 grossly out-specs the ultra conservative 2012 PHEV at the fraction of the price!

That's exactly what I did! Sold my truck that had be reduced to as a commuter vehicle, bought a used Prius for $6000 more than what I sold my truck for, got a 4KW Enginer system installed for $4200. So for about $10K I now own a PHEV that averages 75 MPG on my highway commutes. Between insurance and gas savings had I kept the truck on the road the Enginer system will pay for itself within three years. Two years has almost flown by already!?!? I have a website about the conversion.

One thing I still haven't seen written is this, can one drive 11-15 miles in pure EV with the 2012 Prius PHEV at highway speeds or are they just talking about under lower torque loads where the synergy drive system allows it??
