My next car will prob be in the '16-17 timeframe, but I'll say the same thing. My commute is 50 miles round-trip so I think 100 + miles would be where I would feel a little buffer during winter.

I'm ruling the car out as at fault. It sounds to me the issue is 100% human error. The reporter says it's Teslas fault and Tesla says it's the reporters fault.
I suspect the reporter may have gotten bad info from the CSR or misunderstood. I can also see the CSR didn't have all the info provided to make a correct decision. For whatever reason there seems to have been communication issues. I suspect take some from column A and some from column B and you'll probably end up with the truth.

I willing to believe the truth is somewhere in between, but who in their right mind would be at a gas station filling up and leave with 30 mile range and 60 miles to go. Even if Tesla employees said that, who in their right mind is going to go ok, lets do it.
Gas, electric, CNG, Propane, whatever ... the results would end up the same. Cars need fuel to run and when they run out of it they stop.

I don't have a Leaf so not sure how much my opinion matters, but it's most likely due to the cooling system is lacking. I got from the letter that we want to get ahead of the issue and downplay it. So damage control. However Nissan seems to really be behind the Leaf so I suspect they really will investigate and make good.

I agree it's silly. If we ever get to the point where 1-2 mpg for the difference between a standard versus automatic is a factor in everyone's buying decision then stop the Earth as I want off.

That would be cool, but I suspect it will be like all other convertibles where I can't see anything. :(

At the moment electric/hybrid cars have a bad reputation by the general public. The consensus seems to be that they are slow/under-powered, ugly, expensive and boring cars. Add some people's politics on top with the hippy cars and they are fighting an uphill battle IMHO.
However as more are bought car companies will make more and the price gap will close. As more are made there will be more entries for style and driving styles. With the cost difference dropping and more styles/options more people will try them out.
It will be slow, but at some point there will be a critical mass of people that are familiar with them and dispell many of problems perceived about them.

I own a TCH and as soon as it's paid for I plan to purchase another car, but I expect it will be an electric car or a PIH that can get all or the vast majority of my commute (45mi) on electric only.

I believe the Leafs (Leaves ... :) ) are to be made in TN. No idea on the Pruis. I do know the Camry Hybrid is in KY, so it is possible that it might be made there eventually.
