Commented On: Who Can Do More For Auto Safety: Apple Or Volvo?

I'll go with Apple on this one. There is no guarantee here. But whether Geely Motors will permit Volvo to advance in the face of competition, particularly from Mercedes which beat Volvo to the punch in a number of safety areas is a huge question in my mind. Chinese companies are in a position, given their home market's size, to do as they damn well please. We've already witnessed the demise of the much-loved Volvo wagons.

I love the Audi cars and own a Q5, but I also own a CLS and as pointed out, golf clubs fine just fine in the trunk.

Commented On: Screen Test: Five Frustrating Infotainment In-Car Interfaces

Having experience several versions of the Comand system, I find it somewhat archaic today. Currently, I have a '12 Audi Q5 with MMI plus and it works pretty well. The voice control doesn't always understand and the windows and sunroof need to be closed. The most frustrating is the radio which permits "presets" or favorites but requires you to select "Presets" every time you start the car a new. One feature no often mentioned is the in dash screen between the speedo and tach which provides duplicate info from the main screen and button on the steering wheel which permit telephone, media selection and use without use of the main control knob. It also provides nav info. And the "optional" Bluetooth works great.

Commented On: BMW X3 Vs. Audi Q5: Compare Cars

The Audi Q5 has been around with tweeks for over five years now and it still matches up well with the X3! That says something, although I'm not sure what. The BMW ultimately is much more expensive than a comparably equipped Q5. I shopped all of them, including Evoque, Volvo, Ford Edge, et al, and wound up with a '12 Q5 in December of 2011. I've owned all manner of SUV before starting with a Samurai, Isuzu Trooper, Grand Cherokee, Mercedes ML 430, MB G500 so I've had lots of experience/exposure to SUVs. What swayed me to Audi? It's right-sized for my needs, don't need 3rd row seating; VG mpg (24 in my use) with 4WD; quality is 1st rate; handles well; 0-60 is above average for 2.0T; & of course, the snazzy led lights!

Commented On: Suzuki Slouches Toward Bankruptcy. America Shrugs.

Interestingly, I just visited a "pocket" of high Suzuki sales in the hills of western PA (Altoona). Those folks love the 4x4 SUVs there, rugged, reliable, inexpensive compared to Toyota, Honda. I couldn't find one person who had a clue that Suzuki was going away. I owned two of these vehicles long ago, a '77 coupe' that rusted out completely in the northern winters of CT and IL; and later, a Samurai that I really liked for what it was. Only took one road trip in it and that was enough, but that things would go anywhere off road in any weather without sucking huge quantities of gas. For what it costs and what it would do, it was a "best buy" despite CR's rip. Guess they didn't realize it wasn't a sports car.

This will be interesting. Not noted however is that Audi is offering diesels across the line for 2014 except for RS models as I've read. And just yesterday, I learned my local PD is replacing its V6 Chargers with VW Passat TDIs! While it will be a difficult cost/benefit to determine, the perception will be driven by 2-3 fill ups every four weeks vs 4-5 over the same period. My '98 New Beetle TDI never got less that 40 mpg!

Ford covers all the bases, including home plate. GM only covers 2, big engine, smaller engine.

Not sure GM or Chrysler can match this. There's a lot of tech here that goes way beyond what trucks are known for. But Ford recognizes that many buyers aren't going to be hauling lots of messy construction materials every day. This one is a real step up in the truck game and is why Ford stays on top!

The new Audi Q5 2.0T (or 3.0TDI) should top the list and put an end to your indecision.
