JMHO, but the new Cayman looks way better than the new 911 or Boxster. It's one of the few German sports cars that has some "Italian-esque" flavor that rivals Ferrari.

On the other hand, in Lawty, FL on US 301, the only place AAA designates as a "speed trap", I got a ticket for going 37 mph in a 35 mph zone. The police officer used his laser while I was less than 100 ft. away. Oh, almost forgot. I was driving a Porsche Cayman S.

For $7-8k less, I'll stick with my Q5. OK, so it doesn't have the panache of a wagon, but as a utility, it is the wiser choice.

The thing about Quattro versus the oft mentioned AWD is that it was borne out of Audi's rallying experience and as such it's benefits are not intended to compete with the likes of Jeeps which are specifically intended for serious off road use but handle like poop. One might take note of the fact that many performance cars today are switching to some form of AWD. The Mercedes AMG cars will be AWD in the future. Jaguar is offering it on their big sedan now. Porsche has had AWD drive on its Turbo and 4S cars for many years. Quattro may not be best for Autocross but it benefits everyday handling in the wet and dry and when traveling down unimproved roads, too. Other examples include the Subaru WRX Sti and the Mitsubishi Evo.

Aside from the Outback (its configuration), the others compare more closely to the Audi Q5 which starts a lost $10 less than the Allroad. You could throw the Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX into the mix, too. About 18 months ago, I crossed shopped the Edge/MKX, Volvo, Evoque with the Q5 and came away with the Q5 as the winner. It has given 18 trouble-free months while averaging almost 24 mpg with it turbo four in all kinds of driving and I'm a somewhat aggressive driver who doesn't get left at the light. Had the option been available, I'd probably opted for the new diesel which Audi will have on the road here in the fall. I don't deny the allure of the Allroad, but the Q5 is, I think the better choice.

I've also taken my '12 Q5 off-road in several places, no rock climbing, and it never had a problem with the terrain including some ugly mud. I do wish Audi had given me some skid plate protection though.

Commented On: Who Can Do More For Auto Safety: Apple Or Volvo?

I'll go with Apple on this one. There is no guarantee here. But whether Geely Motors will permit Volvo to advance in the face of competition, particularly from Mercedes which beat Volvo to the punch in a number of safety areas is a huge question in my mind. Chinese companies are in a position, given their home market's size, to do as they damn well please. We've already witnessed the demise of the much-loved Volvo wagons.
