I proved this speed kills mileage rule to myself recently. I forced myself to cruise control at 60mph on a 200+ mile interstate drive (with hills) in my 2008 5-speed 2.0 Mazda 3. I got 41 mpg in a car highway rated at 32. Not only are the aerodynamics at play, but this car also needs a 6th gear to go faster IMO -- 70 mph puts your over 3000 rpm in 5th!

And with the Fed $7500 credit and the Georgia $5000 credit, a $40,000 MSRP for a BEV with those specs would work for me.

I've been giving a lot of thought to whether current Focus/Leaf range is adequate for me. Here's why I'm afraid it isn't. An EPA rating in the mid-70s is really about 50 when you consider you should only charge to 80% and you're not going to drain it to the last electron as you roll into the garage (for battery health or mental health) -- and that's when it's new. Adjust down for climate control and age and it's just not adequate for a big metro area like Atlanta.
I think my EV will need: an EPA rating of at least 125; wireless charging at the faster level 2 rate; level 3 capability; heated steering wheel; unobstructed hatch

How could they sell even 10 prior to the EPA "certification" that just came out a couple of weeks ago?

I really hope this is real. Great example because a 61 kwh battery is about what I think I need for a metro like ATL. By the time you chop 20% off the top and 10% off the bottom for ideal charging, factor down for weather and age, and put in a traffic and peace of mind margin, that gives you about 100 miles you can really always count on for those cross-metro round trips.

That is one ugly profile. The only reason to buy this instead of one of it's excellent competitors would be if you just couldn't resist its looks - oops.

Why don't the electric vehicles just now coming to market have much greater range than the ones from 15 years ago - despite advances in battery technology?
