Commented On: 2014 Cadillac ELR Electric Luxury Coupe Featured On Jay Leno's Garage

True, but in this video he mentions having driven the Tesla but then says he likes this "because if you get stuck you can go back to gas". Which just says to me that he's not looking forward and seeing what's possible with Supercharging and what will be possible in just a few years with all electric cars. So yes he was impressed by the Model S but I don't think he's truly comfortable with a pure electric cars yet, there's still that fear of something new and the security blanket of gasoline the fuel we all grew up with. He may never be ready to let go and just enjoy an electric car.

"Where infrastructure exists", Lol why bother? An electric car charger can be placed anywhere and isn't all that different from installing a light post and it's safer for public use. You could let a kid plug in your electric car no problem, but hydrogen no way. Electric cars are as safe as a cell phone and work on an already existing global infrastructure. It's a no brainer.

It's funny how knowledgable Jay is about cars but he just doesn't take the next little step to really know electric cars. A lot of the things he mentions that he likes on his Volt and the ELR are electric car traights. He has first hand knowledge on how technology particularly automotive technology advances, yet like most skeptics he backs away from pure electric cars and is even a bit critical. I think when looking at electric cars you have to look at what we have now and what we will have in a few years time. And you have be supportive of them or they won't evolve. Jay, you need to think outside the gas can.

I realize there are a few ChadeMO fans that are upset here, I'm not trying to predict which standard will succeed over the other, but like Tesla we could see car brands push the installation of rapid charging stations. Especially when it comes to the brands supporting CCS, in the US Nissan seems to be the only company supporting ChadeMO, Midsubishi may use it but the i isn't very popular anyway.

It may even be a similar case like Tesla's Supercharger network, Tesla realizes that a fast charging network is important to make sales. And I'm sure the CCS supporting companies realize this as well and will similarly push to install stations.

The mentioned brands will use their power to get CCS up and running its in their interests to do so. Just because the Leaf arrived first and more of them exist at the moment doesn't mean ChadeMO will come out on top. There are eight major brands listed above that support CCS and you think one major brand with one electric car is enough. I wouldn't place your bet on ChadeMO just yet, the odds could be stacked against it.

You have to admit a lackluster effort doesn't inspire confidence in consumers, Ford didn't even launch the usual add campaign so what did they think was going to happen. And BMW has stayed pretty vocal on their intentions to launch their electric car, they're not like Audi where they announce their EV intentions and then withdrawal them. BMW has made quite a few press releases and a handful of YouTube videos and has not once show any indication of fear towards electric cars, they've stayed committed to their plans. Not backing down is a show of "great confidence" in their soon to be released i3.

I like the CCS charger it looks fine and with so many multi billion dollar manufacturers behind it charge locations should start to pop up pretty fast. It's also interesting to see who's supporting it, we know which vehicles will have it first from BMW and GM but what about the others? What is Porsche working on, the Boxster E perhaps? Hmm.

We do live in a rare age where some car makers are building cars they don't like. How do they expect to get consumers interested if they show no confidence in the car from the start? Nissan, GM, Tesla, and BMW are showing great confidence in their efforts and consumers are taking notice. That's especially true for Tesla and Nissan.
