Commented On: 2014 Pickup Truck Gas Mileage: Ford Vs Chevy Vs Ram, Who's Best?

"Flat out wrong"
If the proper comparison is "pickups" to "compact cars" then the statement is flat out wrong. Let's say that pickups economy is raised from 18 mpg to 22 mpg. At 2,000,000 sales per year, and 15,000 miles per year, that saves 3.03e8 gallons per year.

Compact cars sell at 1,800,000 per year. Taking them from 29 mpg to 50 mpg (Prius style) means a savings of 3.91e8 gallons.

That means that switching compact cars to Priuses saves 30% more fuel than improving pickup truck efficiency.

"The U.S. will save a lot more gasoline by improving the fuel efficiency of gas-guzzling high-volume pickup trucks than it will swapping out Toyota Corollas for Prius hybrids."

This statement is either represents a silly unfair comparison or is flat-out wrong.

"silly unfair comparison"
Sure the statement is right if you compare a whole class of vehicles (pickups) to one model of another class (Toyota's version of a compact car). Pickups sell 2,000,000 per year and the Corolla sells 300,000 per year. It is a silly irrelevant comparison.

I sure was a turkey back in 2010.

Fuelly data now clearly shows at VW TDI achieving 15% better than EPA numbers and Prius begin about 3% worse than epa numbers.

Sorry John Voelcker.

Well Geely will have to deliver "on-quality" right from the start or it will be even more difficult. If they can introduce a quality car, they have a shot at it. I don't think cheap and cheerful will be the right approach.

Introducing a very unreliable car to the US market will likely be a waste of Geely's time and resources. They will not get anywhere.

But under the right conditions, China delivers world class manufacturing quality. Let's not forget that they make our iphones and Li-Ion batteries (good) as well as cheap plastic toys (bad). It all depends on what their goals are.

So perhaps you can drive to the market once per week. :)

Technically, I think 12 miles would be twice the range of the electric only mode of the PiP which is only 6 miles. Toyota says it is 11 miles, but that includes some gasoline :)

This PDF shows solar panels on the roof and integrated into the glass!!! Wonder if that was implemented on the prototype.

I don't see the "on-board" solar panels.

My mirrors have had a technical glitch twice in the last couple of years when they got too close to an immovable object.
