a lil story:
my brother is an industrial design student with hopes of being a car designer. he is friends with one of the designer from honda's california studio.
my brother were having a discussion about the ZDX when i said that acura's were ugly. he went on the say that the honda designers in cali also think that all of honda and acura lines are ugly. he said that when they send a design to japan for approval it either comes back barely recognizable or they reject it outright. and instead they approve these ugly designs.
personally i don't know what they're thinking these days. they have the ugliest car line sold in america, maybe the world. we're wondering if they're tryin to quietly kill off acura. cause they can't and won't compete with their current design language.
how they went from the previous TL to the current one is beyond me.

the thing is gus is that the new styling is supposed to be boxier(as with the rest of their new designs) to be a reminder of their late 80's and 90's cars. ask any auto journalists or mercedes lover and they'll tell you that these cars had better quality than the late 90's and so on. that's what they're tryin to recapture, the persona of quality. ultimately that's what matters most to mercedes customers.
i personally like the new style. not as much as the last(classic) but i haven't seen it in the flesh yet and i'm sure over the years it'll grow on me to the point of love.
but i really have to disagree with you about the 97' version. that one was love at first sight for me.
