Sooo, close to $79,000 for a mustang? Hmm. I give them brownie points for doing it I guess.

I liked the Lutz of old, who had a mind of his own and spoke it. I don't know who this new Lutz is.
Doesn't matter what he says. The overlord Obama is in control of GM.

I could see some brain damaged environmentalist wacko getting this and forcing their kid to play it. I also see many corporations wanting to put forth a "green" image (the kind of companies I avoid on principle) getting this and forcing their employees to go through it.

Well....if it is a little econocrap car that actually handles well I would seriously consider it. If that is the case the testing at the 'Ring would have some justification. I'll work with a small car that has little power but handles well. If, however, it has handling on par or only slightly better than the current Aveo I agree that testing it at the 'Ring is a colossal waste of US taxpayer money.

V8s getting 18 mpg...I don't know where the hell they are getting their numbers from but I know of numerous V8 cars with double that horsepower getting over 26 mpg. Some authors should really get their facts right and think a little before painting with such a broad brush.

Not surprised. Let's get rid of anything that has any excitement other than a token Cadillac flagship, the Corvettes, and a Camaro (for a year or two). Let's not do anything about the styling of the Cobalt SS, let's just give up on the damn thing. Ditto the G6 GXP. Hell, let's just dump any and all excitement brands alltogether. Wait, this is what is actually happening.
Camaro, Corvette, CTS-V. Other than that GM has crap after 2009.

Sorry to see GM killing off Pontiac. As a lifelong GM owner, I've purchased my last GM vehicle. Sadly though, GM has had no idea of how to manage its brands and give them the identity to thrive. Wholesale incompetence has left them with a hodgepodge of brands that have little to no identity even in the states, let alone worldwide.
No love left in me for GM. Force the fu**ers into chapter 7. Kill 'em off totally. Someone with some actual competence can come in, pick up the pieces, and make a car company that GM could be...and once was.

I hate to see them fail, but I think a bankruptcy and reorg would be the best thing for them. There is little to no sign of them actually doing the necessary restructuring they need to do. All they are doing currently is trying to come up with more cash to burn.
I'd much rather see all 3 file bankruptcy, reorganize in some fashion as leaner, meaner corporations, and even saw off several of my own body parts with a dull butterknife than see government bailouts (and the government "requirements" a.k.a. more control) or a "car czar."
The "Detroit 3" would fall, get back up, dust themselves off, and get on with building vehicles. It may be sticky for a couple of months but the 3 corporations, their employers, their suppliers, their customers, and the American people as a whole would be better off if government keeps their damn noses out of it.

I dig the wheels, I can even accept the (I guess) bumper thingy around the front wheels. I do great with it until I get to the rear of the car. There it loses its appeal. It almost goes from an open-wheel F1 inspired car to the "feel" of a Lola-McClaren(sp?)
I'm totally on board with the idea, but if it is electric count me out. It's an idea for a freakin Ferrari, it must have a high-revving piston engine. Make it a direct injection turbo for max power from the smallest package, and you have an awesome little car.
