Brakes aren't the only thing that's absent. In wheel motors means no need for drive shafts, transmission, oil sumps, differentials or an exhaust system.

Having previously owned an RX-8 - all I can say is that a twin-turbo version would have ATROCIOUS fuel economy.

I could barely get 350kms from a tank.

I really don't understand the fascination people have with this vehicle.

It's about giving a big "up yours" to all the environmentalists and others that hate SUVs. It shows you have more money than sense and you’re not afraid to show it. That’s why vehicles like this and the Hummer still sell – in extremely limited numbers.

IMO, the Phantom is a car you don't buy to drive yourself. It looks very silly everytime I see one and there is just the sole driver on board.

This new Ghost is designed for those who don't want to go all out and hire a driver but still want to own a Rolls Royce.

Ferrari's 4x4 system won't be a constant AWD. It will more likely be designed to kick-in when the wheels lose traction.

- The patent filing describes the system as being primarily intended to "improve the drivability of a sports car in conditions of poor grip," -

i.e. not an SUV

Styling is a very subjective quality but almost everyone i know that has seen the car, including me, thinks this one looks better.

For me, not a whole lot better, but still a little more refined - plus i love the ties to the original model.

Like its GT-R big brother, pictures don't do it justice.

I’d be disappointed too after paying $100k for that interior. Still love the car though :)

I don’t see how this is any better than a 5-series Touring. Perhaps it’s aimed at insecure people who don’t want to be seen driving a station wagon, but whatever it is I see this becoming the R-Class of BMW.

Commented On: Obama unveils new national fuel efficiency policy, 35.5mpg by 2016

I think you are greatly exaggerating the situation Michael D. There will be changes but not severe as what you paint. Europeans have been building large, luxury cars with 35mpg-plus for years.

You are also forgetting that the 35mpg by 2016 is a fleet average. A carmaker can still have the big performance models – it just needs to sell more compacts and all-electric models (these have theoretical MPG ratings of 200mpg-plus) to balance out the averages.
