High Gear Media Seeking a Web Design Superstar

High Gear Media is a Series B funded vertical content publishing company focused on the $3B automotive ad category. We have a unique technology platform and fantastic original content, both from an award winning editorial staff and our own users. We are building a new kind of automotive media experience online.

We own and operate 50 (and growing) automotive web sites targeting nearly every automotive interest and lifestyle. Our content is syndicated across the Web to partners including Yahoo! Autos, Glam Media, FoxNews.com, Huffington Post, BusinessInsider.com, Oodle and The San Francisco Chronicle among others. We’re headquartered in Palo Alto, California and received funding from top tier VCs Accel Partners, Greylock Partners and DAG Ventures.

We’re looking for a full-time, outstanding, jack-of-all-trades web designer who combines a great eye for user-centered design, fantastic web interaction/visual creativity with strong hands-on development skills. You will participate in all aspects of design and production focusing on innovation and quality.
You will work alongside product managers on new sites and features, rapidly develop hi fidelity flows and mockups, and ideally, translate those ideas into full, standards-compliant HTML/CSS pages for implementation across our network of sites. For this last part, you will work closely with a team of front-end engineers.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in making a major impact at a rapidly growing media company. You will play a principal role in shaping the product, user experience and brand. Your work will go live to the web QUICKLY.

NOTE: Candidates do not necessarily have to live in the Bay Area for this role. We are flexible on location and hours – we just want the best person.

Required Qualifications:
• A killer portfolio
• 3+ years of experience designing rich interactive media experiences for the web. This could, but doesn’t have to be, at an automotive site. Ideally, you’ve spent serious time designing content experiences for the web — so blogs, news, sports or entertainment sites, review sites, etc. all qualify.
• A strong sense of design, layout/composition, typography, and color
• Comprehensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop a must, including: Layer Effects, Layer Comps, (slicing, optimizing, etc.)
• Adobe Illustrator and print experience a plus but not required
• Cross-browser, cross-platform knowledge of CSS and front end development.
• Ability to produce timely deliverables and manage multiple and shifting priorities in a dynamic environment
• Ability to work independently, with high productivity.
• A team player with excellent communication skills
