Writing Tips: Handling Sources and Linking
Every website publication handles how sources and links are treated a little bit differently. It’s a little bit a matter of style, and a little bit a matter of keeping things consistent so that the reader has a clear expectation of what’s going on when reading a story.
At High Gear Media, our editorial staff’s “house style” is as follows:
* First mention of a publication/website source — italicize it, don’t link it, don’t include “.com”
* At bottom of the story, put the source in brackets, link it, don’t include “.com”
Here’s an example written by Viknesh Vijayenthiran on a story about Lotus working on a V-6 powered Elise and Exige.
If you’d like to write about cars for High Gear Media, just head here to quickly access our open blogging platform. Your passion for cars can be published to our network of 100+ automotive websites!
And take note: we have a contest running in June to win an Apple iPad for writing about cars.
